2012 Colors of the Year: Pantone's Tangerine Tango & Benjamin Moore's Wythe Blue

Pantone Tangerine Tango
Benjamin Moore Wythe Blue
I have been reading a lot about color trends for the coming year. Pantone, a company which specializes in colors used in fabric, paint, graphic design, & software, has named Tangerine Tango as their color of the year for 2012. This bright orange ( heavy on the red) will be popping up all over the design world. Wait...it already has been! So is Pantone starting a trend or following a trend? You can just expect to see more variations of this color used in fashion and home design. Paired with Wythe Blue as Benjamin Moore's choice for color of the year (and serious contender for my new living room color), The blue/orange combinations will continue to increase their popularity in interior design. You won't see these colors used exclusively at their current intensity level, but expect to see variation in color strength and the graying and lightening of these colors to achieve a neutrality necessary for widespread use in fashion and design. In the average home, we have a variety of objects that need to be able to coordinate and not clash. So realistically,  Pantone's Tangerine Tango will probably be used more as an accent color. It will show up in pillows, slipcovers, curtains and in wall art. It definitely can add freshness and give a pop of color to an otherwise neutral decor. To see how these orange and blue colors of the year can be used together, check out my earlier post Tangerine &Turquoise. Are you using these colors in your decor this year?

  1. Great post!! I adore Wythe Blue, would love to use it in my home somewhere. Tangerine Tango is great too, the perfect pop of color. It definitely seems like the blue/orange combo isn't going anywhere!
