A Beach Cottage Bedroom

My friend Karen lives on Cape Cod. We haven't seen each other in about 20 years, but recently reconnected on facebook. It's so much fun to renew an old friendship. Karen and her partner Dan recently embarked on a DIY project to enlarge their bedroom. The construction work is done, and now she is ready to decorate (the fun part)! She is looking for design ideas. I asked her what style and colors she was thinking about and she wrote "coastal/natural colors, think sand/sea glass, natural fibers and open, airy feeling". All the things I love too! So let's see what I can come up with!   First, we'll look at what some designers have already done when faced with the same challenge.

This room has everything on Karen's list: Beach and sand colors, natural fibers, light and airy feeling. I think it is one of my favorite rooms. I love the muted colors, which give the room a tranquil, relaxing feel.

Here is another room designed by Phoebe Howard. This one has cleaner, brighter colors and evokes a very light and airy feeling. I love the crisp white with the light aqua.

Pillows are a great way to add a pop of color or to infuse a theme into your decor!

So there you have it! Lots of inspiration for Karen to decorate her space. I hope that she will visit us when her project is complete and share pictures of her new Coastal inspired bedroom!

  3. Susan, No, I haven't used Wedgewood Gray, but I love how it looks more like an aqua than a gray. It is on my list of grays to try. If you try it, please come back and let us know if you liked it!
